We wanted to let you know of a new treatment option available to qualified patients through Mansilla Medical. Beginning October 1, established patients of Mansilla Medical will be able to make appointments with our providers to discern if Medical Marijuana is an appropriate treatment plan for your conditions. Please read below for more information.

Marijuana is a controlled substance in the U.S.

To qualify for a Virginia Medical Marijuana Card, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be diagnosed with a medical condition you believe will benefit from medical marijuana treatment.
  • Have written certification recommendation from a registered Virginia Medical Provider.
  • Proof of Virginia residency (current VA Driver’s license or State ID card).
  • Be an established patient at Mansilla Medical.

Mansilla Medical Can Help You Get registered for a Medical Marijuana Card.

Olivia Mansilla MD, Heather Saxby, FNP-BC and Ana Alzamora, FNP-C are registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy and expanded their current knowledge to include the most recent research and studies through continuing education coursework. During your appointment, you and your provider will discuss your condition as well as your medical history. After appropriate assessment, your provider will determine if you are eligible or not to receive the certificate.

Insurance Does Not Cover This Evaluation

It is of note that your insurance will not cover this evaluation and must be paid at the time services are rendered. New patient evaluations are self-pay at $100.00 with a three month follow up evaluation at $75.00. The follow up visits will then be assessed at 3 – 6 months depending on the patient’s condition and compliance. This evaluation cost does not include the cost for registration with the Virginia Department of Pharmacy which is paid for separately.

If your provider believes medical marijuana is an appropriate treatment option for your condition, you will receive a signed certification that will be submitted to the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.  The board will process your recommendation and you will be added to the patient registry and receive your Virginia Medical Marijuana Identification Card in the mail.
